We are proud to offer guided out-rides for bikes and quads, tailored to suit your needs. Melmoth brims with both fun and endurance trails which cater for young, old and all adrenaline seeking junkies!
Whichever trail you may choose you will be mesmerized by the breathtaking landscape of mountains, beautiful forests, rivers and sugarcane farms.
GOLF
We are situated directly opposite Melmoth’s 18 back to back golf course where you can unwind after a long day’s work or just take a relaxing stroll on the plush green course. Golf-carts and golf clubs are available for rental from the Golf Clubhouse which is within comfortable walking distance. Caddies are always readily available. Should you choose to enjoy a drink after a great afternoon or morning outdoors – we offer a shuttle service for those who may not feel so energetic!
PUB LUNCHES
Just down the road from GOLF VIEW LODGE you will find Melmoth’s Sports Club where you can enjoy a delicious pub lunch or dinner and have a few drinks with some of our locals.
AFRICAN ESSENCE SPA – NKWALINI
Relax in beautiful country surroundings, enjoy lunches and teas and indulge in the ultimate bliss of being pampered by highly qualified therapists. Situated about 30 minutes drive from GOLF VIEW LODGE toward Empangeni.
UMFOLOZI GAME RESERVE
If you enjoy wildlife – this is a must! The Umfolozi Game Reserve hosts the Big Five and so much more. Guided game drives are available to the public provided that prior arrangements have been made with the Park’s Officials. The Hill-Top restaurant is a must and provides a splendid selection of meals at their buffet.
FOREST WALKS
South Africa’s first and only Aerial Boardwalk – within the enchanting Dlinza Forest in Eshowe, +/-40min drive from GOLF VIEW LODGE. Experience the unique 250ha indigenous coastal scarp forest from a bird’s eye view, 65 species of birds, 80 species of butterflies and many more (Part of the Zululand Birding Route). Wheelchair friendly up to the viewing tower. Don’t forget your camera, binoculars and walking shoes!
BIRD-WATCHING / BIRD-VIEW WALKS
Located about 45min drive from GOLF VIEW LODGE towards Richards Bay is the Zululand Birding Route. The Zululand Birding Route will provide birders with up to date information on where to go, what to see as well as provide brochures, bird lists etc. In addition to this BirdLife Travel can also prepare itineraries for birders visiting the area. Local guides can be booked direct.
SHAKALAND
Experience the essence of Africa, pulsating tribal rhythms, assegai wielding warriors and the mysterious rituals of the Sangoma interpreting messages from the Spirits. Daily tours include a Zulu dancing show and a buffet carvery dinner under African skies.
KWABHEKITHUNGA
A traditional Zulu Village and tribal home. Experience Zulu Basket-ware, carvings, beadwork, tanned game skins and traditional weapons – on sale. Visits by appointment only.
KWA-ZULU CULTURAL MUSEUM – ULUNDI
Located about 70km from GOLF VIEW LODGE this cultural museum houses one of the most authentic collections of Zulu material culture in the country. Stunning beadwork displays. Offers guided tours as well as self-guided tour leaflets.
BATTLEFIELDS – ULUNDI
The drive from Melmoth to the Battle Fields is steeped in history and has many historical museums and monuments along the way. This is the resting place of the fallen soldiers of yesteryear. Approximately 55km from Golf View Lodge on the Umfolozi Game Reserve Road. The sight is clearly marked and guides are on site to assist.
ZULU HISTORICAL MUSEUM
Within 10 minutes drive towards Ulundi you will reach this fascinating Museum which exhibits one of the most comprehensive collections of memento’s and artifacts depicting the various battles of the Anglo Zulu War. Educational Tour packages available.
